Journey Beyond will debut its new luxury suites, Aurora and Australis, across The Ghan, Indian Pacific and Great Southern from April 2026, ushering in a more indulgent way to experience Australia’s most iconic rail journeys.

Come April 2026, there will be a luxurious new way to experience Journey Beyond’s most iconic train journeys – The Ghan, Indian Pacific and Great Southern – with the introduction of two new suites ‘Australis’ and ‘Aurora’.

The move comes as luxury train travel has never been more popular. International hotel brands like Belmond and Accor have jumped onboard the trend. Belmond has launched opulent trains across Asia, Europe, the United Kingdom and the first luxury sleeper train in South America, while Accor debuted its version of the Orient Express in 2025

Journey Beyond CEO, Chris Tallent, believes the new suites will rival international competitors. “The commitment to our iconic trains’ evolution is exemplified by the introduction of our luxury suites,” says Tallent.

“As demand for international travel continues to surge, we recognise the necessity to enhance the travel experience, ensuring it meets and surpasses global standards. The suites will position our trains among the world’s best train suites.”

Renowned global design firm Woods Bagot has designed the suites that embody art deco luxury while capturing a true sense of the outback and the authentic landscapes through which the trains traverse. Inside the suites guests will find bespoke detailing, decorative timber accents, stone and marble masonry, iron filigree and coved ceilings that reference traditional cornices.

The suites are set to look beautiful, but what will be included in the new suite packages? Here’s a look at what guests can expect when booking the ‘Australis’ or ‘Aurora’ suites.
