We’re currently obsessed with slow travel and Journey Beyond have just launched an exceptionally unique itinerary that involves our two favourite forms of slow travel: rail and sail.
The Ultimate West by Land and Sea package seas Journey Beyond team up with Silversea to combine not one, but two iconic rail journeys – The Ghan and the Indian Pacific– with a cruise.
Lapping half of Australia, the 28-day journey will begin with a rail trip on the Indian Pacific across the iconic Nullarbor from Sydney to Perth. The 3-day trip will include immersive Off Train Experiences in Broken Hill, Adelaide, Cook and Rawlinna.

After a one-night stay in Perth, guests will board Silversea’s Silver Cloud for a 17-night, all-inclusive luxury cruise. All ships feature spacious ocean-view suites with butler service, and most include private verandas, meaning you can sip champagne from the comfort of your deck with ocean views. Passengers will visit the Kimberley’s most stunning destinations, including Buccaneer Archipelago and Mitchell Falls as the vessel makes its way to Darwin.
After a three-night stay in Darwin, travellers will embark on the last leg of their journey aboard The Ghan, which will travel to Adelaide over three days. Stops along the way will be made in Katherine, Alice Springs and Coober Pedy, ticking off some more Aussie icons on the bucket list.

There’s only one departure date planned for 2024, so if you want to be part of this epic journey you’ll need to secure your booking, stat.
The 28-day Ultimate West by Land and Sea departs August 21, 2024, and is priced from $35,295pp. For more information or to book, visit journeybeyond.com
