Music lovers, we've got your Bach: Melbourne Symphony Orchestra to live stream performances

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will live stream performances during the coronavirus shut down to keep the music alive

Apparently culture is not on the Chopin block.

Melbourne Symphony Orchestra will be keeping the music alive throughout the coronavirus lockdown, with live stream performances and broadcasts, and we almost can’t Handel this news. After a week full of shutdowns, restrictions and closures – it is, truly, music to our ears.

The MSO joins a growing number of companies and business offering virtual travel alternatives during the coronavirus pandemic. And if you haven’t heard of virtual travel, then you must’ve been Haydn under a rock.

Just think about it, music lovers: what better way is there to cap off a hard day of working from home than with a freshly shaken quarantini, home delivery from your favourite restaurant and a little culture? See –– we told you we had your Bach.

The live stream announcement came via the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra’s website late last week, following the run away success of a live streamed performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s Scheherazade on Monday, which has since amassed more than 78,000 views from people all around the world.

MSO Managing Director, Sophie Galaise, explained that during uncertain times, she felt inspired to keep the music going.

“At the MSO, we have chosen to transform a big challenge into an opportunity and go forward with livestreaming. This initiative to Keep the Music Going ensures our musicians are playing and our audiences are engaged online.”

“We are looking at new ways to perform with smaller-sized ensembles of the orchestra to provide a variety of beautiful musical experiences until we are able to welcome audiences back to the concert hall,’’ Ms Galaise said.

Those seeking to tune in for the live online concert series can do so every Thursday at 7.30pm, starting tomorrow night (Thursday March 26, 2020) on the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra YouTube channel.
