You won't believe what millennials will give up for travel

Us millennials get a pretty bad rap.

Yes, we complain incessantly about not being able to afford our own homes (while making some pretty questionable financial decisions) and we’re often pegged as a generation of fickle, self-centred, technology-obsessed individuals. But we’re also the generation, who, besides killing mayonnaise (I, for one, hate the stuff so maybe it’s true) and the movie business according to Google, are also less likely to smoke, are more in tune with our mental health, are better educated and more likely to place value in experiences over financial wealth (have I told you we can’t afford our own homes, yet?).

And despite taking less leave so we can work longer (take that baby boomers!), there’s one type of experience that we place above all else, and that’s travel. As reported by Forbes, 83 per cent of us are travelling one to five times a year, 48 per cent one to two times a year, and 35 per cent three to five times a year.

We’re so obsessed that a staggering 57 per cent of us are even willing to give up sex so we can travel more, according to a recent study. As part of the study conducted by Contiki Tours, more than 1,500 millennials (ranging from 18-35 years) were asked what they’d be willing to go without in order to travel more, and the responses are more than just surprising.

Besides sex, 60 per cent of us are willing to ditch carbs, another 77 per cent are happy to give up coffee and a resounding 80 per cent said they’d easily stop streaming Netflix.

Unsurprisingly, only 41 per cent said they’d relinquish their mobile phone, because, well, what would be the point of travelling if you can’t induce some Instagram feed envy?
