Travelling to Paris in 2024? Heads up, it's going to be pricey.
As the Paris Summer Olympics approach and the French capital prepares to welcome nearly 10 million people in town for the Games, conversation has been swirling around the trend of rising prices.
Last month, the city’s transportation agency was weighing whether to double the price of a Metro ride — to €4 (about $4.30) from €2.10 — for the duration of the Summer Olympics (which run from July 20 – September 8) to cover increased operation costs to meet higher demand.
So it should come as no surprise that The Louvre Museum is raising its ticket prices ahead of the Paris Summer Olympics. Come January, for the first time since 2017, The Louvre Museum will raise the basic ticket price from 17 euros to 22 euros.
The 30 percent hike will go into effect from January 15, 2024. The Museum’s reasoning for the increase in ticket prices is to offset the rising energy costs and support its free admission programs geared towards local residents. As The Louvre is the home of the Mona Lisa and is one of the most visited locations in Paris by tourists, the price hike will do little to deter crowds come summer.
So if you’re planning on heading to Paris for the Games, be prepared for things to be a little more expensive than anticipated. And be more prepared with our guides to the best bars to drink at in Paris and the best bakeries to pick up a croissant from.
