Get ready to walk on the wild side.

NSW is on a mission to transform its state into leaders in outdoor spaces that promote active lifestyles. Lillyfield in Sydney is set to get a new tidal swimming pool and a stunning new harbourside park is in the plans for Barangaroo.

So what else is on the cards? According to the state budget, $57million has been allocated to a new treetop skywalk and 46km hiking trail as part of the proposed Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk in Gondwana Rainforest.

Dorrigo Escarpment Great Walk will consist of two parts. The first will be a 46km trail that will explore the Gondwana Rainforest in the state mid-north coast. It will cater to both beginner and experienced hikers with the trail being divided into a two-day loop and four-day loop. There’ll be new campgrounds, hikers huts and lookouts so that hikers can kick back and relax after a day of getting their steps up.

The second part of the Dorrigo Escarpment Walk will feature a very impressive treetop skywalk, called the Rainforest Arc Centre. The soaring curved walkways will gently snake through the forest canopy offering unparalleled views of the Gondwana Rainforest. This new addition will link up with the existing 6lm trail called the Wong Walk. The centre will also act as an education hub where visitors and hikers can learn about the conservation efforts and the Gumbaynggirr people – the Traditional Custodians.

A completion date for the ambitious plans is yet to be announced, but construction is set to begin later in 2024 (pending approvals). For more information, visit environment.nsw.gov.au
