Do you have plans to ring in 2024 outdoors this New Year’s Eve (NYE)? Well, you’ll need the weather on your side to make sure it’s a success. According to AccuWeather, the weather forecast for NYE across Australia looks to be hit and miss. Here’s what the weather forecast currently looks like across Australia’s major cities for December 31, 2024, and January 1, 2025.

Sydney

AccuWeather is predicting New Year’s Eve in Sydney to reach highs of 27°C with periods of sunshine with a thunderstorm in one or two spots, throughout the day. Come night time, the temperature will drop to 21°C and will be cloudy with a couple of evening thunderstorms followed by periods of rain late. It’s not looking good. On New Year’s Day, Sydneysiders will greet 2025 with a little morning rain, otherwise it’ll be mostly cloudy and reach highs of 27°C. 

Melbourne 

AccuWeather is predicting New Year’s Eve in Melbourne will reach highs of 27°C and will be mostly sunny throughout the day. At night the temp will gradually drop to 15°C and it’ll be cloudy. So if you’re planning to be outdoors come midnight, it might be wise to pack a jacket as it’ll be quite nippy. Melbourne will welcome 2025 on January 1 with another stunning day. New Year’s Day in Melbourne will be mostly sunny and reach tops of 27°C. 

Adelaide 

The good weather will continue south to Adelaide with AccuWeather forecasting NYE to reach tops of 28°C with plenty of sunshine throughout the day and clear skies at night. The first day of 2025 in Adelaide will be sunny to partly cloudy, reaching tops of 29°C. 

Brisbane

Brisbaneians should brace themselves for some bad weather on NYE. AccuWeather is predicting that it will reach tops of 28°C, but will be mostly cloudy with thunderstorms throughout the day and evening showers and rain late into the night. Not ideal for a midnight countdown outdoors. January 1 in Brisbane won’t be any better. With rain predicted throughout the first day of 2025. It will reach highs of 30°C.

Perth 

On NYE it will hit 33°C degrees in Perth with brilliant sunshine. AccuWeather is predicting the RealFeel to be 39°C so be sure to slip, slop, slap and stay hydrated. January 1 will be sunny with highs of 28°C degrees.

Canberra 

The weather forecast for Canberra on December 31 will be dry and perfect for outdoor parties. On NYE it hit 29°C with periods of clouds and sun. On January 1 it will be just as warm, reaching 28°C degrees and will be mostly sunny. 

Hobart 

It will be slightly cooler in Hobart than the rest of the country on New Year’s Day. On December 31 it will hit 21°C and will be partly sunny, according to AccuWeather. January 1 is predicted to reach 21°C with periods of sunshine.

Darwin

AccuWeather is predicting on NYE it will be 35°C and sunny periods with a couple of evening thunderstorms around, otherwise cloudy. On New Year’s Day it will reach 34°C and will be mostly cloudy with a little rain.
