The iconic shoe designer is stepping up his game.
Christian Louboutin’s name is synonymous with the colour red. Just ask any shoe lover what they think of when they hear the name and they’ll reply with: red-soled stilettos. So it comes as no surprise that the name of Christian Louboutin’s first hotel is Vermelho, which means ‘red’ in Portuguese.

The iconic French-Egyptian designer is taking his first step in the hospitality world, announcing plans to open a luxury hotel in Portugal. The impeccably stylish 13-room hotel sits nestled in the small seaside village of Melides (about an hour-and-a-half drive from Lisbon). Across three levels there are no two rooms that are alike. Here, Louboutin has showcased his eccentric eye for interiors.

Walls feature hand-painted murals, North African and European antiques decorate the rooms, tiles and ceramics are custom-designed and tables made from rattan come in all shapes and sizes, including that of a dancing monkey. You’ll also find splashes of his signature vermillion colour throughout.

While details of the hotel are still trickling out, we do know it will be home to a massage suite, which pays tribute to the designer’s Egyptian heritage with alabaster walls and caramel tones. There’ll also be an onsite restaurant called, Xitan, which will dish up seasonal bites like octopus salad, lamb chops and braised sardines.

The lush hotel is expected to open April 1. Stay tuned for more.
