Could you handle the world's highest cableway?

Switzerland is about to open the world's highest cable car ride, and our legs are shaking in anticipation.

In case opening the world’s highest cable wasn’t fear-inducing enough for those who are afraid of heights, Switzerland Tourism has also announced that four of the gondolas will feature the country’s first see-through floor. That’s right, now there’s no option but to look down over the snow-swathed, rugged valleys from great heights.

The new cable cars will begin operating at the start of the Switzerland winter season, on 24 November, and will see 25 gondolas transport up to 2,000 passengers per hour up the Matterhorn Glacier on Klein Matterhorn. The gondolas are expansive, too. Each will include 29 spacious seats.

And, it’s going to be glam. Out of the 25 cabins, four will be encrusted in 250,000 Swarovski crystals – because, why not?  Three minutes into the journey, within these four embellished gondolas, the floors will turn from opaque to clear – 170m above the ground – to reveal the expanse below. An active laminate glass sheet powered by electricity turns the white floor transparent in the blink of an eye.
