Clock off and clock on.

Feeling burnt out? Keen to escape the daily grind? Tasmania hears you and wants to help. As part of its Off Season campaign, Australia’s southernmost state is encouraging Aussies to use up some annual leave and apply for one of 10 Odd Jobs, which will help you connect to nature, local communities and culture, and promise to work you too hard.

From wandering the winter landscape with a canine companion to unearth truffles or pulling on some waders and helping organise oysters in the waters of Great Oyster Bay, each job listed by Tasmania embraces what people love about the state: stunning landscapes, unique food and wine experiences, and incredible wildlife.

Tasmania will cover the cost for you to venture to the island state to complete one of the following Odd Jobs:

  • Cave Conductor at Wild Cave Tours
  • Truffle Snuffler at The Truffledore
  • Wine Whisperer at Clover Hill
  • Paranormal Investigator at Tasmania’s Most Haunted
  • Puffer Nut at West Coast Wilderness Railway
  • Soaksmith at Little Things Farm
  • Wombat Walker at East Coast Nature World
  • Oyster Organiser at Freycinet Marine Farm
  • Star Seeker at Rathmore
  • Sauna Stoker at Little Beach Co.

Of course, you can’t land a job without having to apply for it first. The Odd Jobs portal is now open via the Discover Tasmania website and is accepting applications until July 8, 2024. Those keen to head to the island state and fulfil a role need to complete a short submission explaining in 50 words or less why they want to swap their day job for an Odd Job.

If you land your dream job you’ll have travel expenses covered to complete your Odd Job and also receive a selection of fine Tasmania produce or goods, hand-picked by the Odd Job host as payment for your efforts.
