Melbourne commuters will be setting their sights a little higher next year.

Consider road travel a thing of the past: Uber Air is set to start trials in Melbourne next  year.

From 2020, the Australian city will be the third in the world to receive Uber Air trials, following Dallas and Los Angeles. Operations are slated to begin in Melbourne in 2023.

Surprisingly, Uber’s ‘Air Taxis’ will be available for the same price as UberX services. And, other Australian cities are expected to receive trials soon after Melbourne.

Using Uber helicopters, the 19km-journey from the city’s CBD to Melbourne Airport will take an estimated 10 minutes – as opposed to up to an hour on the roads.

Yesterday, we revealed that New York City residents will also have access to flying taxis – for those with premium Uber memberships.
