It will be a mix bag across the country when it comes to the weather.

The January long weekend is fast approaching, and if you had plans to spend the day at the beach, well, that will depend on the weather. Thankfully, in some cities it will be warm and sunny. But it won’t be quite so favourable in others. Here’s what the weather will be like across the country on January 26 in most major cities. 

Sydney, New South Wales 

  • Temperature: Highs of 30°C, lows of 20°C
  • Weather: Hot and sunny all weekend 

After enduring some pretty horrific storms, Sydneysiders will be relieved to know that, come the long weekend, the weather will be warm and sunny. According to AccuWeather, Saturday, January 25 will be cloudy in the morning and reach highs of 27°C. Sunday, January 26 will be muggy and very warm, with predicted highs of 30°C. The long weekend will end on a high, with plenty of sun on Monday, January 27, reaching highs of 29°C.

Melbourne, Victoria

  • Temperature: Highs of 29°C, lows of 14°C
  • Weather: Cloudy and warm throughout the long weekend

The long weekend will be dry and warm for Melbourne. AccuWeather is predicting Saturday, January 25 will be mostly cloudy and reach 26°C. Sunday, January 26 will have bright periods with highs of 28°C. And Monday, January 27 will be a mix of sun and cloud, reaching highs of 29°C. 

Adelaide, South Australia 

  • Temperature: Highs of 31°C, lows of 17°C
  • Weather: Mostly sunny and hot all long weekend

AccuWeather is predicting that Adelaide will be hot and sunny on the long weekend. Saturday, January 25 will be tops of 27°C and mostly sunny. Sunday, January 26 will be sunny all day with highs of 29°C. The long weekend will end on a high with Monday, January 27 being bright and reaching highs of 31°C.

Brisbane, Queensland 

  • Temperature: Highs of 32°C, lows of 23°C
  • Weather: Storms and rain, with a bit of sun on Monday

Unfortunately, Brisbane is forecast to be wet and stormy on Saturday and Sunday. AccuWeather predicts Saturday, January 25 will reach highs of 32°C, but will be cloudy with a couple of thunderstorms. Sunday, January 26 is set to be rainy throughout the day with tops of 31°C. Thankfully, Brisbanites will have some reprieve from the rain on Monday, January 27, as it’s predicted to be 32°C and mostly sunny. 

Perth, Western Australia 

  • Temperature: Highs of 35°C, lows of 18°C
  • Weather: Sunny, except for Sunday, which will be rainy 

Accuweather is predicting that the long weekend will get off to a good start. Saturday, January 25 will be sunny and reach highs of 35°C. Unfortunately, Sunday, January 26 will reach tops of 32°C but will be rainy in the morning and then cloudy for the rest of the day. Monday, January 27 will be less humid with spells of sunshine, reaching highs of 31°C.

Canberra, Australian Capital Territory 

  • Temperature: Highs of 32°C, lows of 12°C
  • Weather: Hot and sunny all weekend

Accuweather is predicting Canberra will have a wonderfully sunny and hot long weekend. Our nation’s capital can expect to reach tops of 30°C on Saturday, January 25, 32°C on Sunday, January 26 and 32°C on Monday, January 27. 

Hobart, Tasmania 

  • Temperature: Highs of 22°C, lows of 13°C
  • Weather: Cloudy and cool with some rain on Monday 

Sorry, guys. Accuweather is forecasting that Hobart will be mostly cloudy on Saturday, January 25 and Sunday, January 26, and rainy on Monday, January 27. 

Darwin, Northern Territory 

  • Temperature: Highs of 34°C, lows of 24°C
  • Weather: Stormy and rainy throughout the weekend

Accuweather is predicting that the long weekend will be warm, muggy and wet. Saturday, January 25 will be stormy with highs of 34°C. Sunday, January 26 will be rainy in spots with thick cloud cover and reaching highs of 33°C. And Monday, January 27 will reach tops of 33°C and will be rainy and cloudy.
