Rain, hail or shine, there will be a party. Thankfully, it looks to be the latter for most capital cities.

Do you have plans to ring in 2024 outdoors this New Year’s Eve (NYE)? Well, you’ll need the weather on your side to make sure it’s a success. According to AccuWeather, the weather forecast for NYE across Australia looks to be hit and miss.

Here’s what the 2023/2024 weather forecast currently looks like across Australia’s major cities for December 31, 2023, and January 1, 2024.

SYDNEY

Ah, the home of NYE. There’ll be a little rain and mostly cloudy. It is forecasted to reach highs of 23 degrees on NYE, with a little rain at night. New Year’s Day will reach highs of 27 degrees, with occasional rain and a thunderstorm in the morning; otherwise, mostly cloudy and breezy. For those looking to brave the weather to see the fireworks, head to these previously ticketed vantage points that are free to access this year.

MELBOURNE

Good news Melburnians! NYE in Melbourne will be rain free and 21 degrees. Come New Year’s Day, Melburnians can expect more sunshine, with some cloud cover, and highs of 25 degrees. Ring in 2024 seaside, at one of Melbourne’s best beaches.

ADELAIDE

Adelaidians will be happy to know that it is looking like perfect party weather on both NYE and New Year’s Day. On December 31 it will be cloudy and reach 24 degrees, with clear skies. And on January 1, it will be 26 and sunny, with a shower at night.

BRISBANE

On NYE it will reach balmy highs of 30, but expect strong morning and afternoon thunderstorms. New Year’s Day isn’t looking better with a thunderstorm or two predicted for the afternoon and night, reaching highs of 27 degrees.

PERTH

On NYE it will hit 29 degrees in Perth with brilliant sunshine. January 1 will be sunny with highs of 29 degrees, but will be a little windy.

CANBERRA

The weather forecast for Australia’s capital on December 31 will be dry and perfect for outdoor parties. On NYE it hit 22 degrees with low clouds and some sunshine. On January 1 it will be warmer, reaching 26 degrees with some cloud and sun.

HOBART

It will be slightly cooler in Hobart than the rest of the country on New Year’s Day. On December 31 it will hit 23 degrees and most sunny. January 1 if predicted to reach 22 degrees and will be mostly cloudy.

DARWIN

On NYE it will be 35 degrees and mostly cloudy with a stray thunderstorm in the evening. On New Year’s Day it will reach 34 degrees with some thunderstorms predicted throughout the day.
