Joy to the world, it’s looking like (mostly) clear skies for Christmas.

Nothing can ruin Christmas Day in Australia more than the weather (not even a collapsed pavlova). So if you have plans for a festive lunch outdoors you might want to keep tabs on the weather to ensure it’s not a wash out. Good news: it’s looking merry and bright for most cities (sorry, Perth and Darwin). Here is the current weather forecast for Christmas Day across Australia’s capital cities.

Sydney, New South Wales

  • Temperature: Highs of 26°C, lows of 18°C
  • Weather: A day full of sunshine

Christmas Day weather in Sydney is going to be hot. AccuWeather is predicting a warm day drenched in sunshine, perfect for outdoor dining (as long as you have some sort of cover). Its also forecasting that the UV Index will 12, which is considered Very Unhealthy, so ensure you provide plenty of shade for your guests and that they slip, slop and slap. Oh, and keep the white wine on ice.

Melbourne, Victoria

  • Temperature: Highs of 28°C, lows of 17°C
  • Weather: Bright periods, otherwise cloudy

Christmas Day weather in Melbourne will be warm and rain free (hooray!). While temps are set to reach 28°C, AccuWeather is predicting the ReelFeel  temperature to be around 31°C. Be sure to keep salads and desserts in the fridge until you’re just about to eat them, if dining al fresco.

  • Weather: Less humid with bright periods
Christmas Day weather in Brisbane is going to be warm with some sun. AccuWeather predicts the RealFeel to be around 31°C. Be sure to keep guests hydrated and keep the pav in the fridge till the last minute so it doesn’t melt.

Perth, Western Australia

  • Weather: Not as warm with bright periods; occasional showers in the afternoon
