Inside the new luxury hotel set to transform Newcastle next year
April 2021 can’t come fast enough.
Opening April 2021
Set to open in April 2021, the hotel will take up residency in Newcastle’s iconic ’roundhouse’ council administrative centre, with the unique structure being reimagined for the contemporary, luxury traveller.
Ideal location
The name Kingsley, is a tribute to Newcastle’s heritage and the city’s earlier name of Kingston, dating back to 1804. Newcastle’s Lord Mayor Nuatali Nelmes has applauded the company’s vision “in reimagining the CAC’s brutalist architecture” and the design will pay homage to the original structure of the building, as well as Newcastle’s rich mining history.
Responsible luxury
Kingsley promises a new level of luxury for Australia’s seventh largest city and the gateway to the Hunter Valley. Situated in the heart of Newcastle, opposite its renowned Civic Park, Kingsley is set to transform the iconic Council Administration centre into an elegant, sophisticated 130 room five-star hotel.
Culturally connected
The location couldn’t be better-situated, with the City Hall, Civic Theatre, Newcastle Art Gallery and War Memorial mere footsteps away, making Kingsley a culturally connected destination that celebrates both what has been and what is yet to come for the city.
Stylish interiors
Kingsley’s interiors make use of curves and rhythm to mimic the linear structure of the existing building, with a colour palette inspired by the Black Canary, a subtle homage to the region’s coal mining history. The interiors were designed by Suede Interior Design and are set to bring layers of texture in rich ivory and touches of yellow throughout the space from the existing neutral palette of the exterior.
New dining
The hotel will also bring several new dining options to Newcastle, including a rooftop restaurant and bar, boasting panoramic views across the city, themed around Newcastle’s olive groves, with a series of olive tree expected to line the spinal corridor, to create a natural shade canopy over guest tables.
Celebrating rich history
Speaking on the upcoming opening, Interim CEO and Group Director, Hotels Geoff York said: “We are so pleased to unveil the interiors for Kingsley. The hotel celebrates Newcastle’s rich history whilst looking forward to what the emerging city has to offer. We are honoured to now be a part of Newcastle’s cultural landscape.”
