For 34 years, Hotel Morris held the title as Australia’s tallest hotel. The iconic Sydney property opened in 1929 and is a beautiful example of Inter-War Palazzo style architecture, which will be reflected throughout when it finally reopens mid-June after a three-year-long restoration. Originally slated to open in January of this year, the delays haven’t dampened spirits and the exciting appointment of a vibrant new head chef was worth the wait.
The highly anticipated Hotel Morris will at last open this month
Take a trip down memory lane at this luxury hotel, complete with a sophisticated bar and restaurant.
All day dining at Bar Morris
Enter through the steel-framed glass doors on Pitt Street and you’ll be greeted by Bar Morris. Taking cues from the building’s origins, the 40-seat bar has an art deco design with rich tones of green and burgundy furnishings, contrasted with brass, metal and tiles. You’ll be able to dine here from dawn to dusk under the skilled eye of head chef, Rosy Scatigna (ex-Shell House). Early birds will relish the speciality coffee and baked treats. Throughout the day deli-style small plates can be ordered with more indulgent dishes available well into the evening.
What's on the menu?
Highlights of the menu include reinvented Italian classics, such as Panfocaccia (a blend of bread and Italian focaccia) which is house made with spelt flour and garlic, from an heirloom recipe that has been passed down through the generations. A juicy cut of flank steak is served with Café de Morris butter, made with salmoriglio, an ancient Italian sauce. Nduja madeleine, is one of the more eye-catching snacks on the menu; a cheesy savoury sponge, enriched with silky guanciale and ‘nduja emulsion. Desserts include a warm frangipane pear tart, with bitter chocolate sorbet and luscious amarene cherries syrup.
