Shut up and take my money.
Hennessy have unveiled a gold decanter designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Hennessy X.O.
Frank Gehry – whose work includes The Guggenheim Bilbao, Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles and The Foundation Louis Vuitton in Paris, to name just a few – is renowned for his post-modern sculptural style, and sought to honour the history of the product as well as those who are responsible for its creation.

“A bottle of cognac is already a work of art: one you can smell, taste, and feel–it doesn’t need embellishment,” he said, of the collaboration. In creating the decanter, Gehry considered the customs, composition and the art of distillation, as well as the iconic Hennessy Maison, birthplace of the storied Hennessy X.O cognac.

The decanter is said to be a reimagining of the iconic Hennessy X.O bottle designed in Gehry’s signature sculptural style, featuring a crinkled sleeve of 24 carat gold-dipped bronze to add a sense of movement to the bottle, reminiscent of the sparkling Charente River (which runs through Hennessy Maison.)

The design is encased in a fractured glass glorifier, which Gehry chose to amplify the feeling of light, water and movement. “The materials… catch the light and make this a really beautiful object on its own, but then you realise it is a bottle of Hennessy X.O,” said Gehry of his creation.

The masterpiece will be sold for $25,500 AUD. The brand will also release an exclusive, limited run of 150 numbered decanters, imprinted with Frank Gehry’s signature.
Gehry will also create a wider release of limited-edition Hennessy X.O bottles, to be launched worldwide as part of the Hennessy X.O anniversary celebrations.
