Iced tea fans now calling for Lipton to be impeached for gross misconduct.
What might have started out as a well-intended harmless prank has led to panic-buying scenes reminiscent of the Great Toilet Paper Riots of Covid 2020, after the official Lipton Iced Tea Instagram page announced that the brand was discontinuing its popular Peach Iced Tea beverage.

Loyal iced tea fans were left outraged by the announcement, which had garnered more than 17,000 comments at the time of writing. Some were genuinely devastated. Many desperate Lipton Peach-lovers headed straight to the supermarket to clear shelves of remaining supplies. Some sneaky shops raised prices to capitalise on the situation.
But it’s okay, guys. It was all just a joke. Ha ha.
Yes, it seems that this whole business was just an early April Fools’ prank *cough* marketing ploy *cough* gone wrong. Gone very wrong by the looks of things. The Lipton Iced Tea page followed up less than 24 hours later with another announcement, explaining that “Peach is here to stay”, and that the best reactions to the fake news would be getting sent a “special surprise”. But people weren’t placated, if the comments are anything to go by. As one person wrote, “Don’t call me pookie after this stunt.”

A percentage of the profits made from the record sales the company enjoyed due to the announcement are reportedly being donated to charity. However, no apology has yet been issued. Will Lipton recover? Most likely. But it’s a lesson to be learned for all beloved brands – never toy with your most loyal customers’ emotions.
