It’s the boozy Zooper Dooper of your summer dreams. Words by Mariam Digges.
It seems rosé is still having a bit of a moment. The pink-hued wine may have received a bit of a bad rap last decade but local and international wine producers have definitely started embracing this warm weather hit (see delicious.’s drinker-in-chief Mike Bennie’s top six rosé picks here.)
You might have thought rosé fever peaked last summer with the advent of New York’s frosé (frozen rosé wine) cocktail in Australia but one US company has taken things up a notch. The folks over at small-batch ice pop makers FrutaPOP (they’re famous for infusing their Zooper Dooper-like ice pops with coffee, booze and natural fruits, and also for skipping on added sugars and dyes) have just unleashed a rosé popsticle, and the internet isn’t quite coping.
They teamed with ‘rosé lifestyle advocate and promoter’ Rosé Season on the poptail, which comes in two summery flavours: Coconut Rosé Sangria and Watermelon Mint Lemonade. Unlike the Zooper Doopers your school canteen used to sell, the rosé FrutaPOPs sport a five per cent ABV. And from about $6 a pop, the price tag is equally grown-up. Sadly, they’re not quite available in Australia just yet so for now, it’s back to sipping on frozen rosé slushies, poolside. Things could be worse.
