The breakfast martini is going viral and we're so here for it

Breakfast Martini

Is it five o’clock yet?

Anyone for a breakfast martini? No, we’re not referring to giving in to grabbing the gin at 8am. We are, however, talking about the citrus-spiked cocktail that’s going viral online. If you haven’t tried a breakfast martini yet, you’re missing out on a seriously delightful, Paddington-Bear-esque tipple for the witching hour.

How is it different from a regular martini? Combining the traditional herbaceous flavours of gin with the zesty sweetness of marmalade, this cocktail even comes with a side of toast so you can get your carbs in before the next round.

The breakfast martini balances the aromatic, tart citrusy taste of oranges with rich, resonant notes of juniper. Made with a base of gin, fresh lemon juice, and a generous spoonful of orange marmalade, the cocktail’s ‘orangeness’ is ramped up with a splash of Cointreau or triple sec.

Perfect for any time of day (within reason), the breakfast martini is as versatile as it is delicious. Looking for a kickstarter at your leisurely brunch? Breakfast martini. Don’t have room for dessert? A touch of sweet citrus will hit the spot. You see where we’re going with this.

So without further ado…

How to make a breakfast martini

  • 60ml gin
  • 20ml fresh lemon juice
  • 20 ml triple sec or Cointreau
  • 1 tsp orange marmalade
  • ¼ piece of toast, triangle
