Even the plates will be the real deal at the Sydney pop-up of Gordon Ramsay's three-Michelin-starred restaurant.

Circular Quay may be subbing for Chelsea, West Australian marron for lobster, but make no mistake, when Gordon Ramsay comes to Australia next month, he’ll be bringing Restaurant Gordon Ramsay with him, right down to the Royal Doulton plates.

Those who have been lucky enough to snap up tickets to the $495 dinners on May 8, 9 and 10 at Sydney’s Aria Restaurant, can expect a seven-course dinner curated by Ramsay and his Restaurant Gordon Ramsay chef patron Matt Abé.

“Matt and I have curated a journey through food that threads together our history and also our history with Matt Moran and Aria,” Ramsay says.

“All brought together by thoughtful twists where we replace our UK produce with the amazing produce available in the autumn in Australia.  There will be other touches for sure, including shipping over hundreds of Royal Doulton plates so the dishes will be plated as we would do back at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay.”

Abé started his career at Aria, before moving on to Melbourne’s Vue du Monde. At the tender age of 21, he went to the UK and took up a position at Ramsay’s Claridge’s, before joining the team at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay, working his way through the ranks. In 2020, he was made “chef patron,” responsible for running the restaurant.

On Chelsea’s Royal Hospital Road, Restaurant Gordon Ramsay is just one of eight three-Michelin starred restaurants in the UK. Started by Ramsay in 1998, just three years later it was awarded three Michelin stars, an accolade which it holds to this day.

“It’s a very special place in the heart of all the Ramsay family. A beautiful, intimate dining room, subtle decor, the lighting set just right,” Ramsay says.

“The food is three-Michelin star perfection. We invite our guests in, to experience what I truly believe to be the most amazing few hours of their culinary lives.”

Ramsay and Abé are keeping their culinary cards close to their collective chests regarding their Australian venture, but concede that signature dishes such as the shellfish ravioli, which has been on the Restaurant Gordon Ramsay menu since day one, will make an appearance, along with the pecan praline dessert which was Abe’s first menu addition a decade ago.

“Everything on the menu is there for a reason.  I don’t want to give too much away as we do want the full menu to be a wonderful surprise for the guests that join us.” Ramsay says.

For an extra $295, diners can have their dinner matched by specially chosen wines.

Ramsay, who is as famous for his fruity language as his cooking skills will be in Australia for five weeks, filming a new food show.

“It’s no secret I love Australia, it’s a bloody long way but I come whenever I can,” he says.

“I have thought about a pop-up for a while but yes, it was about the timing. That gave me more time in the country to be able to do this really well. Then we had to think about with who, and where. That was actually an easy one. Aria is stunning, Matt is a wonderful friend, and everything really aligned to make this magical moment happen.”
