Newtown institution Hartsyard to close its doors

Owners Jarrod Walsh and Dorothy Lee are saying goodbye after almost four years.

The pair took to social media to break the news, revealing their last service at Newtown will be on Monday, August 29.

Walsh and Lee took over the iconic inner-west space in late 2018 after predecessors Gregory Llewellyn and Naomi Hart pivoted their attention to their second venue, Wish Bone.

We loved every moment of working in such a creative space with some of the best people our industry has to offer. We have challenged ourselves day in day out, pushed the boundaries of our food and beverage offering,” the pair share.

While Hartsyard may be closing a chapter in Newtown, they’re currently working on opening a new one with The Old Clare – a nightlife fixture in Chippendale.

Don’t worry. We are not moving too far away. We are working closely with The Old Clare Hotel – a place that we feel aligns with Hartsyard in so many ways. We will focus on bringing our craft and our vision into their Food & Beverage offering.” Both parties have worked closely together before, with Hartsyard classics currently available at The Clare’s bar and rooftop.

While plans for the Newtown space are still TBC, the Hartsyard team are working on a new restaurant within The Old Clare, coming towards the end of 2022.

Up until their official closure on Monday, August 29, the team will be serving a ‘Best Of’ tasting menu. Book a table now at hartsyard.com.au/reservations/.
