The spectacular neon chandelier sealed the deal.
According to the 2023 Restaurant and Bar Design Awards, this Adelaide bar is the best of the best. Luma has taken out one of the biggest prizes at the prestigious Restaurant and Bar Design Awards in London overnight, where it was named best bar.

The art nouveau-inspired lobby bar at the Playford Hotel has been noted by the awards judges for its sculptural chandelier, an impressive neon light fixture that snakes and swirls across the ceiling with judge Ari Kastrati describing the bar’s design as “daring and effective.” Melbourne-based architect and design firm Hachem is the brains behind the illuminating project.
Luma not only scored top points for overall bar design, it was awarded as the best restaurant in Australia and the Pacific, as well as the lighting category.

Three Sydney venues also received high praise in the London award ceremony. Azabu Group’s shabu-shabu restaurant Hanasuki won best standalone venue, the Poernomo brothers’ Koi won best cafe, and neon-lit Tsukiyo won best surface interiors.
Luma is located 120 North Terrace, Adelaide. For more details, head to lumarestaurant.com.au.
