It's everything you love about custard tarts in pancake form.
When it’s too early for chicken burgers, head to new all-day cafe Lunas in Petersham for modern Portuguese brunch fare, including Sweet Belem-inspired Portuguese tart hotcakes.
Lunas is the latest project by restaurateurs Jose and Basia Silva (Sweet Belem, Fich, Bibo Wine Bar) and chef Jacqueline Ektoros (Three Wiliams Cafe). The trio are all Bennelong alum with over 15 years of hospitality experience.
“We love Petersham and this is a suburb that is central to the identity of Portuguese people and food in Sydney,” Josa Silva said. “At Lunas, contemporary Portuguese-inspired breakfast and modern Portuguese lunch is the showcase. The flavours are familiar but it is most importantly Portuguese, new and exciting.”

The new corner cafe on Stanmore Road has been given a fresh fit-out that combines honey timbers with a forest green corrugated bar, with seating indoors and outdoors.
Not your usual bacon-and-egg fare, Lunas dishes up modern Portuguese plates from chouriço scrambled eggs spiced up with sobrassada butter to sardines on toast with molho verde, a punchy herb sauce.
The specialty, of course, is the Portuguese tart hotcakes, loaded with a baked Portuguese tart custard, sprinkled in cinnamon, and finished with vanilla ice cream.

Adding to the Frangos vs Silvas chicken burger debate, Lunas will also dish up its own version, with cabbage slaw, pickled onion and piri piri mayo.
Of course, you’ll still want to take some of those tarts home with you and thankfully they’re only a short walk away.
