Been dreaming of a trip to Japan but your bank balance has other ideas? We have fantastic news for you. The team behind Richmond’s Future Future is behind Suupaa, a proper Japanese-style konbini – a convenience store meets casual diner where you can pick up shopping staples and totally delicious snacks.
Cremorne’s newest corner shop aims to recreate the Japanese shopping-meets-restaurant experience that stores like 7-Eleven, FamilyMart, and Lawsons have become internationally famous (and adored) for.

Of course, it wouldn’t be a chic Melbourne venue without a few local touches. Chefs Dennis Yong (Furrmien, Parcs) and Future Future head chef Atsushi Kawakami have joined forces to create a menu that blurs the line between Japanese and Australian flavours.

Ever-popular konbini snacks like onigiri, chicken nuggets and tonkatsu have had a stroke of the Melbourne brush. Onigiri, stuffed rice wrapped in nori paper, will be filled with mortadella instead of the traditional Spam. Fluffy sweet shokupan sandwiches get cheffy with fried egg, curry ketchup and black garlic relish. And let’s not forget the Vegemite barbecue sauce with the crisp fried pork loin tonkatsu, piled neatly into tidy bento boxes.

Co-founders Alex Boffa and Stefani Breschi have enlisted Good Measure’s Max Allison to create signature drinks including a hybrid of matcha and Milo, plus a tasty banana-infused cold brew coffee.
Suupaa, 65 Dover Street, Cremorne.
