Kariton Sorbetes’ Sydney store is set to open in Burwood in March. The Inner West suburb recently opened a bustling Chinatown, home to over 50 Asian hawker-style eateries. While exact location and open date are yet to be confirmed, the Filipino ice creamery will be a welcome addition.

Co-founded by Filipino chef John Rivera (formerly Rockpool, Lume, Amaru) and Vietnamese chef Minh Duong (formerly Maha), Kariton Sorbetes first opened in 2020 as a takeaway service in Melbourne. The business has since expanded, now serving an array of chilled desserts across three storefronts. The name is an ode to the traditional dessert carts peddled through the streets of the Philippines, providing cool relief to hard-working locals.

Kariton Sorbetes landed a spot in Melbourne’s delicious. 100 in 2023, solidifying its status as one of the city’s hottest eateries.

The current menu boasts a ‘100% non-traditional’ plethora of classic Pinoy flavours combined with modern Southeast Asian influences. Crowd favourites include the summery mango float, the divisive and controversial durian and, of course, the ever-classic ube.

If you, like us, can’t wait for the March opening, head down to Kariton Sorbetes’ Footscray, Chinatown and Glen Waverley stores.
