Are you bready for this?
Love banh mi? Silly question, who doesn’t. Do you love bánh mì so much you could finish an 80cm-long bánh mì? Kearns Village Bakery in Campelltown in Sydney’s west – about 45 minutes from the CBD – is making a case for bigger is better.
The local bakery is serving up an extra-long bánh mì coming in at a whopping 80cm long. It’s the size of four of Kearns Village Bakery’s normal size bánh mì. Now, while it’s not intended for one person to consume, we wouldn’t judge if you did. The $45 mega roll was designed to be shared between three to five people and has recently gone viral on social media, thanks to Annie Nguyen of @anniesbucketlist. The food blogger paid the bakery a visit to try out the almost-metre-long bánh mì and the video has more than 800,000 views.

Sydneysiders are big fans of bánh mì (here is our pick of the best ten spots for bánh mì in Sydney), so it comes as no surprise that the minute this giant roll hit social feeds the likes and comments came flooding in. While the general sentiment is that this roll is big, and we mean really big, lots of bánh mì lovers have also praised it for being delicious as well. So if you’re craving bánh mì and don’t quite have the appetite for 80cam of it you can order a normal-sized roll, which is packed full of flavour.
If you’re sharing the roll and can’t agree on a flavour of bánh mì, need not worry. You can have the best of both worlds. Kearns Village Bakery can make half the roll in one flavour and the other half in a different flavour. Who said good things only come in small packages? Let’s agree to disagree.

What is bánh mì?
A blend of Vietnamese cold cuts and veggies on a French-style baguette with pate and butter, the bánh mì is a sandwich unique to Vietnam that symbolises a complicated colonial history as well as Vietnamese tradition and resilience. It’s also a darn good sandwich. Cold pork, pickled carrots and daikon, cucumber, onions, coriander, chilli and pate are the usual suspects. Find the best bánh mì in Australia here.
