The man behind the World's Best Restaurant has Italian inn Maria Luigia en route.
It seems that Massimo Bottura doesn’t just understand the key to a good meal, but the key to a good stay, with the star chef confirming the launch of his first hotel. Maria Luigia is en route, a 12-room Italian inn named after Bottura’s mother and designed with the luxury market in mind.
Settled into a country estate just outside of Italy’s Modena, Maria Luigia will not be your typical bed-and-breakfast. With rates starting at $519USD per night, the hotel was born from a dilapidated villa, the stone house and its gardens revamped by Bottura and wife Lara Gilmore. Now the 12-acre property boasts not only luxe accommodation, but a tennis court, a swimming pool, and a sculpture garden. Indoors is equally as impressive, thanks to an artwork collection overflowing with pieces from Matthew Barney, Tracey Emin, and Andy Warhol.
A hotel has been on the cards for some time for the foodie power couple. Dismayed at the lack of luxury hotel options in Modena, the duo decided to do it themselves, the petite hotel the latest in their growing line of projects, which include neighbouring restaurant Osteria Francescana, a line of soup kitchens, and an eatery for fashion house Gucci.
Unsurprisingly considering its owners, Maria Luigia will have a strong food focus. On arrival, guests will be treated to bottles of Lambrusco and Parmigiano Reggiano for in-room snacking. Breakfast and a light lunch, served at the eat-in kitchen, are also included in your stay.
Eager to experience it for yourself? With Maria Luigia’s opening planned for a European Spring, we suggest it’s time to start saving.
