Why we're beyond excited about Lune and Supernormal's new collaboration

Hint: Dessert is involved.

Lune is no ordinary bakery. The Melbourne-based pastry specialist comes courtesy of the talented Kate Reid, a woman determined to produce not only the best croissants, but the most creative. Proof comes in the form of Reid’s latest buttery creation, which has been made in collaboration with restaurateur Andrew McConnell in ode to Melbourne Food & Wine Festival.

The Supernormal x Lune Kouign Amann has just arrived, a joint sweet treat take on the Kouign Amann (pronounced “queen a-mahn”) that has been developed by Kate and Andrew to taste of autumn. Originating in 19th century Brittany, the Kouign Amann is said to be the most decadent pastry in all of Europe. Reid and McConnell’s take of course upholds this reputation, but sees it deconstructed and served as a full dessert at McConnell’s Supernormal.

LUNE

Traditionally the Kouign Amann consists of layers of caramelised pastry, but its new incarnation is potentially an even more decadent concoction of caramel parfait, hazelnut, white chocolate and vanilla cream. Cardamom and white pepper woven have also been interwoven in layers of thin croissant flakes, which are then packed with sugar and butter for a glossy, crunchy dessert.

The Supernormal x Lune Kouign Amman will be available to indulge in for all of March at Supernormal in Flinders Lane. A word of warning though; limited numbers will be made daily, so eager parties are encouraged to pre-book their treats by contacting Supernormal on 03 9650 8688 or online.
