Noma Australia is done, packed up and dusted. But that doesn’t mean the fun’s over. Master restaurant in Surry Hills is teaming up with Noma chefs past and present for one day only to present NOMASTER, and you’re invited.
As we enter the post-high lull of waving goodbye to Noma Australia, we’re as surprised as the next person that for some people the party isn’t over.
Not content with a well-earned vacation down under, a handful of Noma’s current chefs are pooling together with a group of former Noma grads to collaborate at Master in Surry Hills for a one-day only on Monday April 11. The pop-up will bring together past and present Noma alumni including co-owner and head chef at Master John Javier as well as Nathaniel French, Tom Halpin, Rasmus Kristensen, Viviane Mello, Stu Stalker and Tommy Tash. “It’s been in discussion for the whole time Noma has been open,” says Master co-owner Jared Roker. “All the guys are just really good mates and thought it would be fun to work with each other again.”
Master is said to be one of Rene Redzepi’s favourite places to eat in Sydney, so it’s no surprise that his chefs would have spent their days off chowing down on former Noma intern Javier’s progressive Chinese menu. For diners who missed out on a coveted spot at Noma’s Sydney pop-up, it’s a chance to experience a taste of what they might have missed at a fraction of the price (still quite a large fraction, but hey, it’s not $485). And for those who were lucky enough to score a booking, it’s one final chance to try to relive the experience.
The menu for NOMASTER is still under wraps, but the hint is that guests who’ve been to the Copenhagen restaurant might be leaving with a slight sense of deja vu. For what they are giving away, diners can expect an 8-course menu with snacks for $170, with optional paired wines for an additional $90.
Bookings will be available for lunch or dinner via the Master website only, with registrations open from 12pm this Friday the 8th of April.
