It's high steaks in Australia right now.
The 2025 results of the World’s 101 Best Steak Restaurants have been revealed, and Australia is on fire.
On the prestigious list, which pits legendary Argentina parrillas against glamorous New York steakhouses, a total of 17 Australian restaurants have made the cut on the new list – placing Australia in the top two countries in the world for flaming good steaks.
Neil Perry and the team at Margaret in Sydney’s Double Bay are celebrating after climbing to second spot, after claiming third place last year (thereby maintaining their position as the best steak restaurant in Australia).

“We’re absolutely thrilled that Margaret has been named one of the best steak restaurants in the world,” says Neil Perry.
“For our family-run restaurant to receive this recognition is an incredible honour. It’s a testament to the passion we’ve poured into our meat program — from working with exceptional producers like Blackmore Wagyu and CopperTree Farms to ensuring every cut served is perfectly dry-aged and cooked.”
The judges were impressed by Perry’s obsession with provenance, as well as the effortless ambiance of the inner-east favourite. “Margaret is not only one of the best steak destinations in the world – it is also one of the most refined,” they said.
Sydney and Melbourne dominated the list, with Sydney nudging out in front in the steaks census.
The International swooped in at number 14 less than six months after opening, with sister Point Group venue Shell House sneaking in just outside of the top fifty at 51st place.

The International’s 25 Martin Place neighbour AALIA, led by chef Paul Farag, made its debut on the list at 36 (making this booming CBD plaza a one-stop-shop for world-class steak).
Rockpool proved that an old dog can definitely learn new tricks with a spot at 12; while Lennox Hastie can add his 16th-place nod as another reason to celebrate as he marks the 10th anniversary of Firedoor. Surry Hills’ Argentinian-styled steakhouse Porteño muscled into 20; while the steak experts at Liquid & Larder have two ranking restaurants – The Gidley at 32, and Bisteca creeping in at 99.

Melbourne’s Victor Churchill landed in the top 20, at 18; the top-ranking of six in the Victorian capital. Audacious South Yarra steakhouse Steer was up next, at 37, with Gimlet cracking the top 50 at 45.
