The sprawling new Topikós will move into the old Bondi Public Bar on Campbell Parade, writes Mariam Digges.
Bondi Beach is about to get a sprawling new modern Greek diner. Topikós Dining Room & Bar is moving into the old Bondi Public Bar on Campbell Parade, brought to life by hospitality bigwigs The Point Group, the team behind Surry Hills’ The Dolphin Hotel and the more recently opened Shell House in the CBD.
Capitalising on its beachfront location, the diner-cum-bar-cum-taverna will feature a spacious 80-seat dining room, 100-seat bar and a generous outdoor terrace spreading out onto Bondi’s famous promenade.

The Point Group have thrown their finest into the rink, with restaurateur Brett Robinson and interior stylist Anna Hewett leading a team including ex Bathers’ Pavilion and Pilu head chef Charles Woodward, and culinary director and hatted chef Joel Bickford. The group have also snagged general manager Danny Webster-Clamp (Royal Hotel/Totti’s), with Nick Ingall (Apollo and Greca) running the floor.

Topikós is the Greek word for ‘local’, which is who Robinson is targeting with the venue.
“We want to create the very best quality wine and cocktail bar whilst embracing the bohemian spirit of Bondi,” Robinson says. “Restaurant quality sips and snacks from midday to midnight … It’s something we know Bondi locals really want.”

Dishes will take inspiration from the Greek Islands, underpinned by Australian influence and produce. An olive oil program, homemade pita and an all-day meze menu are all part of the package – expect saganaki split king prawns finished on the grill with lemon, garlic and olive oil; and smoky wood-fired octopus with fried white bait, feta and sweet pepper filo pie.
Those familiar with The Dolphin’s antipodean cocktails will be happy to hear that Josh Reynolds has been charged with the drinks program – he’s rolling out a Greek greatest hits list including The Baklava Old Fashioned, Aegean Spritz and Topikos Iced Coffee, while sommelier Alex Kirkwood’s selection of wines leans on the progressive side.
Topikós Dining Room & Bar will swing its doors open on Thursday 14 April.
