Charcuter-tree, charcuter-tree, how lovely are your ham-ches

First there was the charcuter-wreath. Then it was the charcuterie chalet. Now the internet’s obsession with building things out of bits of cured meat has reached a new level of Christmas-fuelled hysteria with the advent of the charcuter-tree – a Christmas tree-shaped charcuterie tower.

It’s the perfect combination of holiday cheer and tasteful 1970s-style entertaining for the busy entertainer – no time to prepare the nibbles AND decorate the table? Make a charcuter-tree and you’ll be doing both at once. Now that’s multitasking like a boss.

So how do you go about setting up one of these things? Get yourself a styrofoam cone and set it on a serving board, then chop up your chosen meats, cheese, fruits and pickles into uniform bite-sized pieces. Olives and cherry tomatoes also work well. Next, use toothpicks to attach your pieces onto the cone in pretty patterns. If you want to be extra clever, you can even decorate the top with a big cheese star. Ta-da! You now have your very own charcuter-tree.

No styrofoam cone? No worries. You can simply fashion a Christmas tree-shaped charcuterie board with your chosen elements. It might not earn you a write-up in the next issue of Architectural Digest, but it’ll still impress the heck out of your guests.

Stay tuned for later in the week when we show you how to build a lifesize replica of Santa Claus entirely out of salami.
