Australia is awash with Big Things. Magnificent natural landmarks aside, we’ve got the Big Prawn, the Big Banana and even the Big Wine Cask adorning our landscape, for which we should no doubt feel bigly proud. 

But now there is a new Big Thing joining these considerably colossal ranks. Domino’s has announced plans to build a five-metre Giant Doughnut statue in the rural town of Moranbah, Queensland.

The new landmark is being erected to mark the return of Domino’s Giant Doughnuts to menus nationwide, after Australians apparently devoured a staggering 32 tonnes of the 16cm sweet treats in just seven days during a limited release last year – which is more than the weight of the Big Prawn, or almost as much as whale shark. So why Moranbah? Domino’s records show that locals here ate more Giant Doughnuts than any other region during the menu offering’s 2024 release. Apparently around one in eight Moranbah residents bought one. 

While the Giant Doughnut statue’s construction is still in the planning phase, Domino’s is throwing a special celebration to hole-heartedly thank Moranbah for its support. On March 31, between 4-5 pm (or until stocks run out), the Moranbah store will be slinging free Giant Doughnuts to locals.

For those not in Moranbah, customers elsewhere can pick up a Giant Doughnut for $7, or get one delivered for $7.50. Plus, 20 cents from every Giant Doughnut sold will be donated to Domino’s Minds & Meals charity, which supports youth mental health and disaster relief.

Domino’s Giant Doughnuts will be available in three flavours: Original Glazed, confetti-covered Sprinkles and Cookie Crumble. They’re available now in-store, through the Domino’s app, or online at dominos.com.au
