The detox favourite will have you digging deep into your pockets.

There’s not doubt about it, celery is our latest health hero. The celery juice trend is on the rise, fuelled by claims that a regular glass of the veg-laden drop can help to aid immunity, detoxify your liver, improve gut health, skin, and assist in weight loss.

While it does have a bevy of nutritional offerings, celery juice is yet to be confirmed as the health saviour we believe it to be by medical professionals, but that hasn’t stopped the trend from growing, nor has it stopped the resulting rising price of celery. Now 10,000 tonnes of celery is now juiced every year.

Unfortunately for fans, celery has now risen 300 per cent in price in the past two months reports The Guardian Australia. “The crunchy vegetable is retailing for as much as $7 a bunch, as a combination of weather-damaged crops and the juice fad squeezes stores. Wholesale celery prices reached $2.60 a kilo in February and March, compared with the three-year average of $1. In Sydney and Adelaide, it hit $3.08, according to industry analyst Hort Innovation,” the publication revealed.

But why? Well not only is demand high, but supply is low due to this year’s ongoing natural disasters and heatwaves. Don’t panic – there’s enough celery about to cater to an ongoing focus in enhanced liver function, but just be prepared to drop a pretty penny for it.
