There aren’t many things that can get a Sydneysider excited about leaving the house in June, but we reckon this one is well-worth changing out of your slippers for. This month, the harbour city’s best known farmer’s market, Carriageworks, is holding a special program to celebrate the arrival of winter.
On Saturday 18 June, from 8:00am-1:00pm, there will be live cooking demonstrations, terrific truffles and new season food finds in store – as well as the same crusty sourdough, fresh honey and gorgeous flowers you know and love.
The day’s program holds a little something for everyone and, best of all, it’s completely free.
Keen hobbyists won’t want to miss Cornersmith’s brilliant cooking class at 9:00am, which focuses on the art of fermenting. And honestly, who doesn’t want to make their own pickles at home?

Looking for something a little more cerebral while you sip your single origin? Get an insight into the world of dairy farming with John Fairley from Country Valley Dairy and Mahlah Grey from The Pines at 10:00am.
Country Valley produce a range of premium dairy products that they supply to a bunch of incredible NSW vendors, including Carriageworks favourite, Pepe Saya. The Pines is an artisan micro dairy on the NSW South Coast, which uses forward-thinking organic, biodynamic, holistic and regenerative farming methods, so they’re guaranteed to inspire.
But that’s not all, TV chef Luca Ciano will be serving up some next-level comfort food inspiration with a live cooking demo at 10:30am. You’ll learn how to make a tasty porcini mushroom and black truffle risotto using Vannella’s stracciatella and mastro cheeses, paired with new season black truffles from Hartley Truffles.
