Crunchy, butter, spiced and sweet - we're not seeing a problem here.
McDonald’s in the UK has introduced a new dessert menu item for Easter and it’s got the Brits divided.
The seasonal Hot Cross Bun pie launched at Macca’s UK this month to very mixed reviews, and all we can say is: send it our way! If there’s one thing that we love Down Under it’s the cinnamon-spice of a Hot Cross Bun. Throw some crisp apple pie shell in there and it’s a hit.
Back in the UK, some members of a popular Facebook group Food Finds UK Official are taking their grievances to the public. One commenter said of the Hot Cross Bun pie, “[the] pie is vile.” Another chimed in, “Had the pie last night, absolutely rank, worst one they’ve ever done.”
Yet another member said of the pie, “It’s like eating crunchy melted butter,” and ma’am, we are failing to see the problem here.

The limited-run pie is described by McDonald’s as “Crispy cinnamon pastry filled with a spiced fruit mix and butter-flavour cream filling.” It reads like a toasted HCB topped with creamy butter – again, send it here!
The Hot Cross Bun pie is not the only Easter addition to the UK Macca’s menu. They’ve also added a Hot Cross Bun Latte and a Cadbury Creme Egg McFlurry. The jury is still out on those two but we’ll be bitterly watching on as we pine for the pie.
We may not be able to get the crisp Macca’s pie in Australia but what we’ll take solace in the absolute wealth of incredible Hot Cross Buns that talented bakers are turning out across the sunburnt country.
