This fuss-free crumble is one to commit to memory – sprinkle it over any in-season fruit for an easy weeknight dessert.

Ingredients (9)

  • 6 small ripe pears, halved
  • ¼ cup (60ml) maple syrup, plus extra, to serve
  • 25g unsalted butter, chopped, plus 100g extra unsalted butter, melted
  • ¼ cup (55g) caster sugar
  • ¾ cup toasted mixed nuts (we used pecans, walnuts and hazelnuts), chopped
  • 1 cup (150g) plain flour
  • ½ cup (45g) rolled oats (we used Woolworths Macro rolled oats)
  • ½ tsp allspice
  • Yoghurt or double cream, to serve

Method

  • 1.
    Preheat oven to 180°C/160°C fan-forced. Place pears in a large baking dish, so they are packed tightly. Drizzle with maple syrup and dot over 25g chopped butter, cover with foil and bake for 30-35 minutes until softened slightly.
  • 2.
    To make the crumble, place sugar, nuts, extra 100g melted butter, flour, oats and allspice in a bowl and mix to combine. Spoon the crumble topping over the pears and bake for a further 30-35 minutes, until golden and crisp. Drizzle with extra maple syrup and serve with yoghurt or cream alongside.
