What you need to know before you start

This simple recipe comes together in minutes. You’ll need some basic cocktail-making accessories, including a large jug, your favourite serving glasses, a stirrer, ice and a citrus squeezer for the lime juice. You’ll also need a knife to cut the passionfruit and a spoon to scoop out the pulp. Note that this recipe does contain alcohol, so it’s for adults only.

Why is this the best passionfruit margarita recipe?

This passionfruit margarita is made in a large batch, so there’s no need to fuss with individual cocktail shakers. Perfect for group celebrations, you can scale the recipe up or down, depending on how many people you’re hosting. It’s a great no-fuss cocktail that heroes the classic flavours of a refreshingly tangy margarita with a burst of brightness from the sweetness and tartness of passionfruit.

What is the secret ingredient of a margarita?

The secret to the perfect margarita is using fresh lime juice. As there are so few ingredients in this margarita recipe, be sure to use the best-quality ingredients you can source. Opt for high-quality spirits and fresh passionfruit, and be sure to use plenty of ice.

What is the difference between a mojito and a margarita?

Mojitos and margaritas are often mistaken for one another. While both are refreshing with a burst of lime, the main differences are the alcohols used. A mojito uses white rum, while a margarita uses tequila and cointreau.

What ingredients you’ll need

Tequila: Tequila forms the base spirit of the cocktail, providing a smooth, earthy flavour that complements the tropical sweetness of the passionfruit.

Cointreau: Cointreau adds a layer of orange sweetness, balancing the acidity of the lime and enhancing the tropical profile.

Passionfruit: Passionfruit pulp brings a vibrant, tangy-sweet flavour, while the scooped-out halves act as a garnish.

Freshly squeezed lime juice: Lime contributes a tart, citrussy kick, balancing the sweetness of the passionfruit and adding brightness to the overall flavour.

Salt flakes: Salt is added around each glass rim to add a savoury depth to each sip.

How to make a passionfruit margarita

A passionfruit margarita is simple and fuss-free to make. Before you begin, prepare all your ingredients, including measuring out the alcohols, juicing the limes and preparing the passionfruit pulp. When you’re ready to serve, add all the ingredients into a large jug and mix. Salt the rim of each glass, using lime juice to help adhere it to the surface. Fill the glasses with ice before portioning out the margarita mixture.
