Sydney thrillseekers are in for the ride of their lives when iconic theme park Luna Park reopens in June. The beloved harbour-side amusement park will debut nine new rides, and a host of fresh interactive experiences as part of its $30 million upgrade. 

Little Nipper is the first of nine new permanent rides at Luna Park. The bright blue family-friendly rollercoaster, set in the north-east corner of the park, is described as having “just enough oomph” to give the little ones a thrill, without leaving the grownups green around the gills.

There’s plenty more thrills to come, including an adults-only ride known as Sledgehammer: a 360-degree spinning hammer, with a minimum height requirement of 130cm. Sledgehammer promises “G-forces that you didn’t even know existed” as it drops, spins and swings riders back and forth, until Sydney, sea, sky and screams blur into one. 

When it reopens, the park will also become home to Australia’s fastest and tallest multi-launch coaster, and the world’s first ‘single launch’ coaster. 

Luna Park’s transformation is one of the single biggest upgrades to any amusement park in the world, cementing its status as a world-class destination. It’s the most significant upgrade since the park reopened in 2004.

For the first time ever, the park will also offer annual passes. The limited availability annual passes are priced from $199. Those who manage to nab one in the first release will receive six months exclusive access to the park’s new loyalty program, the aptly-named Luna Perks. 

The relaunch, announced back in November 2020, will happen in a staged roll out over the next few months, with eight of the nine new rides on track to be completed for the opening in June.
