Had your COVID jabs? Phuket is ready to welcome you back

Phuket

It’s Thai time – no quarantine required.

It’s the good news we’ve been waiting for.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) has announced that Phuket will be the first destination in Thailand to reopen to vaccinated foreign tourists without quarantine requirements.

As of 1 July 2021, Phuket will open its borders to fully vaccinated travellers from low-risk countries who fly direct to the popular island. And the best bit is that once you’re there, you don’t have to quarantine. So rather than 14 days stuck inside your hotel, you’ll get to soak up the glorious sun, swim in the glittering waters and walk on the pure white sand of the iconic island.

It’s expected that nearly 130,000 visitors will arrive in Phuket in the three months from July to September, giving a much-needed boost to the tourism-dependent island.

In response to the news, Emirates announced that starting on 2 July, it will resume four weekly services from Dubai to Phuket, a promising sign of things to come. But, like everything, it depends on the overall COVID situation in Thailand.

Once on the island, tourists must stay a minimum of seven days before being allowed to travel elsewhere in Thailand. But, let’s be honest, seven days in Phuket doesn’t sound so bad, does it?
