Luxury Maldivian villa resort Soneva Jani has announced the opening of a new restaurant: Overseas by Matthias Dahlgren.
Overseas by Mathias Dahlgren is the brainchild of the acclaimed Swedish chef and restauranteur (of eponymous Mathias Dahlgren restaurant at the Grand Hôtel, which contains the two-Michelin starred Matsalen.) After visiting Soneva Jani –– set in the Maldives’ pristine Noonu Atoll –– the chef fell in love with the location and sought to celebrate the local Indian Ocean seafood and organic produce from the resort’s gardens.

The new overwater al fresco dining experience has a laid-back atmosphere with uninterrupted views across the horizon. Available for both lunch and dinner, Overseas by Matthias Dahlgren will serve locally grown –– and caught –– ingredients, with an emphasis on small plates.

The menu brings a focus to pescatarian, vegetarian and plant-based dishes, serving a selection of single plates, share plates and signature mains. The fish and seafood that feature have all been sustainably caught in local waters, while the organic vegetables, herbs and fruit are freshly picked from Soneva Jani’s own organic gardens.

High on our “must try” list is the pre-set menu of Chef’s Choices, which allows diners to savour a full range of dishes including single plates, share plates, signature dishes, and an open selection for the main dish and dessert. Expect plant-based snack plates like Soy Roasted Macadamia Nuts and Chickpea Crisp; Oyster Leaf Emulation (also plant-based), share plates like Sashimi of Raw Smoked Tuna, Soy Mayonnaise, Ginger and Black Radish.

Signature dishes include Charcoal Grilled Fish and Salad Wrap served in the style of Korean Bo Ssam, and vegetarian dish Black Fermented Bean Stew, Kimchi Pickled Greens, Black Pepper Sauce.
