Big news, huge!
After closing down in 2016, the long-awaited return of the IMAX is a big deal. Huge, actually. It will be reopening on October 11, bigger and better than ever, thanks to a massive 693-square-metre screen.
The screen is so large that it is powered by IMAX’s most advanced theatre technology that includes 4K laser projection that uses a system with a new optical engine and custom-designed lenses. The result? Moviegoers can expect that images on the screen to be brighter, with better resolution, deeper contrast and the widest range of colours that an IMAX has seen. The sound will also be crisp and loud thanks to a 12-channel setup.

Screen tech isn’t the only thing getting an upgrade. On top of the screen enhancements, a range of different seating will be introduced. Think full recliners, couples’ lounges and private pods to ensure ultimate comfort. There is a total of 430 sets, equal to that of the old venue.
You’ll find IMAX in the brand-new The Ribbon building, which is also where W Sydney is located. Big things this way come!
