(Re)Born to be wild.
Say hello to Victoria Park/Barrambin’s new look. Brisbane City Council has just revealed its final master plan for the sprawling city space and can it be 2032 already?

The grand new design for the 64-hectare parkland includes a towering treehouse lookout, water play gully for tots (and big kids), a high-ropes course, mountain bike track, reinstated water holes and wetlands, a community edible garden and a plethora of boardwalks and running trail. An off-leash water play area for dogs is also on the cards, so you can bring your fur pals along too.

While talks of a revamp of Victoria Park/Barrambin have been ongoing since 2019, plans have been cemented thanks to Brisbane hosting the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2032. The Herston site will be the place where the equestrian cross-country course is set up as well as the spot where BMX freestyle events take place throughout the Olympic and Paralympic Games.

But that’s not all. A cafe is planned to be a part of the lookout so you can sip on a post-run or -bike ride coffee while taking in stunning views of the city skyline. There’ll also be an adventure playground for kids of all ages and ample shady foliage, including revegetated forests and pockets of native bushland. In fact, 60% of the park will be covered by tree canopies.

While no firm completion date has been set, it is projected to be done by 2032 or just after. We’ll keep you posted when updates are released.
