Seminyak’s beach club offering continues to flourish with the news that one of Sydney’s favourite drinking dens is setting up shop (again) with a day club in the Balinese township. The group behind Bondi Beach favourite Bucket List (and Motel Mexicola) will be launching Tropicola this August on Bali’s Golden Mile.

Tropicola is set to be a multi-purpose venue combining beach club, restaurant, rooftop bar and hotel in one. Sitting on 7000sqm of beachfront land, Tropicola will kick off in different stages, initially with the beach club launch, followed by the introduction of a 60-seat restaurant led by chef Steve Skelly, the man behind fellow Bali hot spots Mexicola, Da Maria and Luigi’s Hot Pizza. The menu will focus on fresh seafood, grilled meats and simple vegetables, all cooked in an open kitchen. 

Those who would prefer to stick to drinks will be able to enjoy a glass or two from within one of three bars sprawled across Tropicola’s multiple levels. There will also be a rooftop offering, accompanied by panoramic views of the surrounding coast, as well as bars neighbouring the venue’s two pools. Last but not least, a 60-room hotel will later be added to the development, focused on affordable and accessible luxury on the island, with rooms available from $100 per night.

James Brown and his team at Mash – the designers behind Motel Mexicola – have again been involved in the vibrant new build which has taken inspiration from the rainbow-hued Mexican restaurant. “It rises up from the beachfront in a riot of colour and movement,” says the group of the new development. “Tropicola beach club is a place to get a tan, relax in the in the sun, people watch, sipping great cocktails and dine all day long as music fills the air and the best staff on the island flit and flow from table to table and sunbed to sunbed.”
