We’ve had a long wait for Easter this year – Easter Sunday can fall anywhere from March 22 to April 25, and always falls on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon, also known as the ‘pink moon’. This is the first full moon after the March equinox.

This year, that equinox fell on March 20, and the full moon won’t happen until Saturday, April 12/Sunday, April 13, which makes Sunday, April 20 Easter Sunday in 2025.

So now that we’ve got that out of the way, you’re no doubt all gagging for that four-day break, and want to know what the weather will be like. Sadly, it’s not looking too sensational in some states at this stage, which is only to be expected at this time of year. But this just makes the idea of a getaway to a cosy rental cottage in a picturesque regional town all the more attractive. Here’s what the weather will be like over the Easter long weekend across our major cities this year.

Sydney weather forecast

Dawes Point, Sydney Harbour — Dawes Point

Sydney’s had it pretty good so far this year, weather-wise, and the Easter long weekend isn’t looking too shabby. According to AccuWeather, temperatures will be sitting at highs of around 21 to 22, with cloudy spells and slight chance of rain in the first two days. The chance of rain will taper off over the following two days and the sunshine will pick up, however, the wind may also pick up on Easter Sunday, so keep that in mind for any Easter-egg hunts you may be planning.

Melbourne weather forecast

Melbourne central Business district — Melbourne CBD

It will be cooler in Melbourne, with AccuWeather predicting highs of around 18-19 for the first two days, picking up to highs of 20-21 on the Sunday and Monday. There will be some sun throughout the long weekend, but it will be mostly cloudy, with a slight chance of rain, as well as the possibility of a thunderstorm or two.

Adelaide weather forecast

Temperatures will be sitting at highs of around 20 most days, with slightly higher temps on the Saturday, according to AccuWeather. But Saturday could also bring a thunderstorm, along with wind. It will be mostly cloudy, with some sunny periods over the long weekend, and there is a slight chance of rain. But don’t let that dampen your spirits. It’s perfect weather for indulging in a long lunch at one of the many excellent winery restaurants around the state.

Brisbane weather forecast

Brisbane could certainly use some good weather, and according to AccuWeather, you’re set for decent temperatures, with highs in the mid to high 20s. But there will be a slight chance of rain throughout the long weekend. Despite this, the sun will break through in spells.

Perth weather forecast

It will be a mostly sunny one for Perth over the Easter long weekend, according to AccuWeather, although there is a very slight chance of rain on Good Friday and Easter Monday. Despite this, temperatures will sit at highs of around 23-25, so it’s still worth heading out to one of the city’s beautiful beaches.

Canberra weather forecast

It’ll be a chilly one in Canberra, according to AccuWeather, with temperatures sitting at highs of around 16 or 17. It will be mostly cloudy, with the chance of rain on all four days, but there should be a little sunshine sneaking through, here and there. It’s the perfect weekend to stay indoors and indulge in some Easter baking, we say.

Hobart weather forecast

Slightly chillier in Hobart, with highs of no more than 15 or 16, according to AccuWeather. There will be showers on Saturday and Sunday, with the chance of a storm on Saturday, and it will be mostly cloudy both days, with wind expected on the Sunday. On Good Friday and Easter Monday, there will be the chance of some sunshine, but also the chance of rain, with possible wind on the Monday.

Darwin weather forecast

Unsurprisingly, it will be hot and humid in Darwin. According to AccuWeather, temperatures will be sitting at highs between 32 and 34 over the long weekend. However, it will be mostly cloudy, with a chance of rain. There is also the chance of a thunderstorm on both Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.
