Love is in the air.

Often referred to as one of the most romantic walks in the world, Italy’s Via dell’Amore or ‘Path of Love’ has reopened. After more than a decade of being closed, due to a landslide incident in 2012, the path is welcoming back nature lovers and keen walkers. The hiking route has undergone serious trail repairs and is safe for tourists to walk again.

Located between the towns of Riomaggiore and Manarola the Path of Love is a 1km route that winds its way around five villages that make up the Cinque Terre UNESCO World Heritage Site. What makes this walk so special is that the paved pathway hugs the coastline and was carved out of the hard rock facer overhanging the sea, so the views of the landscape and sea will make you fall in love with Italy.

Over the decade-long restoration rocks above and below the pathway were reinforced with steel mesh and more than 8,800 plants. Plus, the walk now has a monitoring system installed that will be able to warn local authorities if it detects signs of any potential landslides.

As you can imagine, tourists that have been keen to walk the Path of Love but have been awaiting its reopening are expected to flock to the UNESCO World Heritage Site but Italy’s famous stretch of Cinque Terre coastline will try to combat over tourism by introducing a booking system, which will be available soon. Each hour, 400 walkers will be allowed on the path and will need to have pre-booked their ticket online or purchase one at the ticket booths. Prices are yet to be confirmed.
