Marimekko is in full bloom in Finland this summer. The lifestyle brand, known for its bold prints and colours, has just opened an ‘al fresco living room’ called Marimekko Terassi. 

In typical Marimekko fashion, this pop-up cafe – located in the heart of Helsinki, just outside the Marimekko store – is covered in the label’s signature flowery prints. The block tables, chairs and even the floor is covered in it. Completing the set-up, the steel cafe chairs have been coloured a pastel pink to suit the print, making it easily Instagrammable.

Exclusively open for the summer, Marimekko Terassi will be serving a weather appropriate menu that is inspired by Marimekko’s bold prints over the decades. If you’re in need of a snack break mid shopping spree, try the Iso Laine (big wave) dish. The Iso Laine print was first seen on some of Marimekko’s most iconic dresses from the late 1960s. In the simplest terms, it looks like ocean waves, which is what the Iso Laine dish takes cues from pairing cured and mildly smoked Finnish rainbow trout with green apple in a mille-feuille style. 

For a refreshing bite there are two salads on the menu, including a fancy garden salad and Finnish take on a caesar salad. You can also cool down with a range of summery cocktails, wines, beers and cider. Dry options include mocktails and a cold brew latte. 

Complete the dining experience with something sweet. The Mujia (colloquial word for woman) is a delightful pie made from the best berries of the summer season, which are truly a standout in Finland. 

Marimekko Terassi is located at Pohjoisesplanadi 33, 00100 Helsinki and is open Monday-Friday 10am-10pm, Saturday 11am-10pm and Sunday 12-6pm. Opening times may change depending on the weather.
