The Melbourne Airport rail has been delayed until the 2030s, so we’ll see you on the SkyBus

The dreaded commute between the airport and city remains.

In news nobody wanted to hear, it’s been announced that the 2029 completion date of the Melbourne Airport Rail will not be met. Instead, frequent flyers, holidaymakers and tourists will have to rough it on the SkyBus until the 2030s, at the soonest. Unless you can afford to fork out the astronomical cost of a taxi or Uber, which if you can, good for you.

The Victorian government has said that frustrating negotiations with the private operator that runs Melbourne Airport about issues, including how to continue running the airport during the construction of the rail line, is what has been what has caused the hold up.

Another factor is the federal and state budgets, which the future of the project is hinged on. Both of said budgets are scheduled to be revealed in the coming weeks. So stay tuned for whether the rail project makes the cut.

In the meantime, long live the SkyBus.
