Only one Aussie airline landed on the list.
Qantas will be flying high after consumer champion Which? revealed the results of its survey which asked travellers what their experience was like flying in the past year. Results from more than 10,000 flights were analysed to reveal the best and worst airlines for short- and long-haul flights.
No Australian carrier was listed in either the worst short-haul or worst long-haul list. Those spots were reserved for North American and European airlines. The ultra-low-cost Hungarian airline, Wizz Air, took the unfortunate title of being the worst short-haul carrier in the world. Followed by Ryan Air, Iberia, Vueling and British Airways.
When it comes to short-haul travel, Jet2.com, Icelandair, Norwegian, Turkish Airlines and Loganair, came out on top.

The worst long-haul carrier went to Germany’s flag-carrying airline, Lufthansa. Air Canada came in second, followed by American Airlines, British Airways and Air France. The United Kingdom’s flag carrier, British Airways, will be disappointed to rank poorly for both short- and long-haul services.
Qantas will welcome the good news, though. Last year, the Aussie carrier plummeted 12 positions on Skytrax World’s Best Airline list. Qantas went from fifth position in 2022 to 12 in 2023.
Thankfully, it looks like things are on the up for the airline in 2024. Qantas was named the fifth best long-haul airline in the world on Which?’s list. It came in after Singapore Airlines, Emirates, Virgin Atlantic and Qatar.
The upcoming years are exciting ones for Qantas as it launches its direct 22-hour service from Sydney to New York and London. Here’s a sneak peek of what flying Economy and Premium Economy will look like on the history-making flight.
